Ignite Problem-Solving Skills with Our Shape Maze – Triangles Activity!

Developing problem-solving skills is a vital part of a student’s growth. Unfortunately, with the vast curriculum content to cover and the time pressures teachers face, problem-solving activities often get overlooked. This stifles students’ chances to practise their logical thinking and reasoning skills. But it doesn’t have to be this way!

Introducing the Shape Maze – Triangles, a part of our extensive collection of quick labyrinth puzzles now exclusively available through our Teacher Mastermind Hub membership. These activities fit seamlessly into your day as a 5-minute brain warm-up or a short lesson starter. The best part? They don’t eat into valuable lesson time and can be revisited throughout the day until the solution is found.

Using activities like Shape Maze daily ensures students get the chance to flex their all-important thinking skills. Each resource sheet in the collection is accompanied by a handy teacher answer sheet, allowing for quick and easy assessment. Display it at the end of each day for students to self-assess their own work and encourage independent learning.

How to Use Shape Maze – Triangles:

  1. Print the Resource Sheet: Ensure your students have a supply of coloured pencils or crayons.
  2. Solve the Puzzle: Students must help the spider reach the web by colouring triangles that form a route from start to finish. Only triangles that are directly above, below, left, or right of each other can be coloured. Diagonals do not count.

Create Your Own Shape Maze Activity:

Even without our resource sheet, you can still bring the excitement of shape mazes to your classroom with a few simple steps:

  1. Draw a Grid of Triangles: Use a blank sheet of paper to draw a grid filled with triangles.
  2. Set a Start and Finish Point: Mark one triangle as the starting point and another as the end point.
  3. Design the Path: Create a solution path by marking a sequence of adjacent triangles that lead from start to finish. Ensure that only triangles directly above, below, left, or right are used.
  4. Colour Coding: Have students use coloured pencils to follow the path you’ve designed.

While creating your own mazes can be fun, it can also be time-consuming. If you’re looking for done-for-you resources to save time and enhance your teaching, our Teacher Mastermind Hub is the answer!

Extension Activities and Fun Ideas:

  • Create Your Own Puzzle: Provide students with a blank maze and ask them to invent their own puzzles with different characters and scenarios.
  • Life-Sized Labyrinth: Chalk a grid on the playground floor or use dividers in the sports hall to create a life-sized maze. Cut out large 2D shapes for students to navigate, rearranging them to increase the challenge.
  • Beebots Adventure: If your school has Beebots or similar programmable robots, create a shape maze for the robots to navigate. This activity combines problem-solving with programming, enhancing multiple skills at once.
